I think Merkur is one of the best brands of safety razors. I've been using the brand since 2009. It's my favorite because I feel that it gives me a close shave and reduces the amount of nicks and cuts on my face. Since I started using a Merkur razor, my wife has commented on my smooth skin. I agree with her that my face does feel smoother now than it did before.
Another reason I like the Merkur brand is that it gives me multiple razors to choose from. Right now I'm using a chrome-finish razor, but there are numerous others that I have tried or will try. You can buy a double-edge blade, a long handled razor, a gold plated razor, and several other varieties. The Merkur Cobra is pretty expensive, but I think I might try that one next. A friend of mine has one, and he swears by it.
